Yesterday was my eight month Derbyversary.
This comes after a fantastic practise on Saturday where I got three PB’s and felt like I played well at Daisy (despite the penalty – oops!). Followed by an evening of alcohol with many of the other Dames.
And it struck me.
I’m part of the team.
I may still be learning, I may be slower than some but that doesn’t matter.
I’m a Dame.
So here are my top ten ‘highs’ of the last eight months;
No 1. Finally getting crossovers!
No 2. Scoring points for my team in Daisy.
No 3. Getting a penalty and understanding ‘why’ I got the penalty.
No 4. NSO-ing a real bout.
No 5. Hearing a Dame praise my 360 turn as they went past.
No 6. Having several Dames (and coaches) take me aside to teach me new things just because they think I’m ready.
No 7. Being hit.
No 8. Newbies asking for my help.
No 9. The bruises (they mean I’ve worked hard)
No 10. Realising exactly how far I’ve come in these eight months, from being a complete non-skater to seeing the light at the end of the minimum skills tunnel.
