With Birmingham Blitz Dames Ref School starting on Saturday 3rd October we’d like to introduce you to the lovely Roisin Rulette, # N17
Here’s what she has to say about being a referee for the Birmingham Blitz Dames.
“I have recently taken up refereeing after playing roller derby for 7 years. I love it because it is a constant challenge but sociable and fun at the same time. There’s a really nice vibe in the dames ref crew – we are all learning all the time as the sport continues to grow. Imposing order on chaos isn’t easy especially on skates but ref school takes you through the skills you need one step at a time. Being able to think on your feet and keep a calm head amongst noisy and adrenalin fuelled athletes are definitely two of the most useful qualities – as well as being able to explain sometimes complex rules succinctly and not falling over too often while skating! I work in student complaints and have two teenage kids so I have a great natural hard stare which is a bonus.” – Roisin Rulette
